American Sugar Cookies

American Sugar Cookies

3        C. all purpose flour

½        t. baking powder

½        t. baking soda

1         C. butter (2 sticks)

2        eggs

1         C. sugar

Multi-colored cookie sprinkles

Preheat oven to 375˚.  In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and baking soda.  Cut in butter as for pie crust.  In a separate bowl, beat eggs, add sugar and beat well.  Blend egg mixture into flour mixture.  Chill dough for easier handling.  Roll out on floured pastry cloth or board to 1/8 inch thickness.  Cut out with cookie cutters.  Lift with spatula onto ungreased cookie sheets.  If you are not going to be frosting the cookies, sprinkle with multicolored sprinkles at this point.  Bake in 375˚ oven for 6-8 minutes.  Remove at once to cooling rack. Decorate with frosting, multicolored sprinkles, and/or cake decorations, if desired.

Yield:  3-4 dozen
